Comprehensive School Counseling Program

Mission Statement

The mission of the School Counseling program at Deerfield Elementary is to care, listen, support, and provide every student with a comprehensive school counseling program that meets their academic, emotional/social, and career needs.  By working with parents, teachers, and administrators our goal is to advocate for and support students so that they may development the skills they will need to become 21st century leaders, lifelong learners and productive members of their global community.

Vision

The vision of the DES School Counseling program is to remove barriers and collaboratively nurture, support, and prepare students so that they will become lifelong leaders and learners in the 21st century.

Statement of Philosphy

The DES school counselors believe:

  • All students have dignity and worth.

  • All students have the right to participate in the school counseling program and deserve to be advocated for by the school counselor.

  • All students have the right to a safe and nurturing learning environment that supports growth and leadership.

  • All student’s needs including but not limited to ethnicity, gender, culture, socioeconomics, and special needs are considered in planning and implementing the school counseling program.

  • All students should have access to a full-time, state-certified, Master’s-degree-level school counselor to deliver the school counseling program.


The DES comprehensive developmental school counseling program:

  • Is based on specified goals and developmental student competencies.

  • Uses data to drive program goals and evaluation.

  • Is planned, coordinated and evaluated by the school counselors along with input from staff and parents as well as an advisory council.


The DES school counselors will:

  • Serve as student advocates in the school environment ensuring success for all students.

  • Participate in professional development in order to maintain a high quality school counseling program.

  • Abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by the American School Counselor Association.
